Convention staff has the final authority on what is and is not acceptable in convention spaces. Repeat offenders may be required to forfeit their badges and leave convention areas. Remember that you are a guest of both the convention center and the hotel you are staying in, and that there are other guests utilizing these same facilities. Be courteous, and do your best to treat other guests respectfully. If the convention center or hotel staff or security make a request of you, follow their instructions or your badge may be forfeited. Staff has the final authority on any decision regarding your behavior or any other policy. They're usually wearing a METROCON Staff shirt, and have a METROCON Staff badge.<\/li><li><strong>SECURITY<\/strong>: If someone from Security tells you something, it\u2019s for a very good reason. Please listen to them. They are here for your safety and the well-being of the entire convention. You might run into METROCON's Security Team, in Yellow METROCON shirts with a METROCON badge, or the building's security (a third party paid security service), or even Tampa Police Department.<\/li><li><strong>SPECIAL GUESTS<\/strong>: People wearing a Special Guest badge are just that \u2013 guests of the convention. Notables in the Japanese animation or video game industry in some form or fashion, they\u2019re one of the main reasons most people come to conventions. Treat them with politeness and respect.<\/li><li><strong>VOLUNTEERS<\/strong>: By far the people you are most likely to encounter throughout the weekend, these are the people who are working in exchange for free registration and attendance to\u00a0<strong>METROCON<\/strong> functions (when they\u2019re not on the clock, of course). These are badge checkers and other stationed positions throughout the convention who have received direct instruction from the staff.<\/li><li><strong>CAST:\u00a0<\/strong>There are several shows and performances at the convention, and many of the performers are wearing official cast badges. These are some of the most knowledgeable people at the convention \u2013 feel free to ask them for help or assistance if you can not find a staff member or volunteer. Cast members may, on occasion, be acting as staff members or volunteers, so respect them as such.<\/li><li><strong>PRESS<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong>METROCON<\/strong>\u00a0will have in attendance various members of the press. Many work for large TV networks or local newspapers, and others work for podcasts or anime magazines \u2013 if you can comply with their requests, try to do so in a polite manner. If a STAFF member requests something of you, please comply. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, you may request to speak to their superior, however this is not always possible due to time constraints throughout the weekend, and will most likely result in the same answer you were originally given, in addition to time wasted that you could have spent enjoying the convention. This includes any unwanted physical contact, following someone around a public area without a legitimate reason, or otherwise infringing on their personal liberties. Assault is legally defined as\u00a0an intentional, unlawful threat by word or act to do violence to the person of another, coupled with an apparent ability to do so, and doing some act which creates a well-founded fear in such other person that such violence is imminent; in the state of\u00a0Florida assault is a 2nd Degree misdemeanor. Neither activity will be tolerated at\u00a0<strong>METROCON<\/strong>. Please remember that if you approach someone and they tell you \u2018no\u2019 or to leave them alone, your business with them is done. If you do not leave them alone as they have requested, your actions may be grounds for a complaint of harassment. If you feel that you are being harassed, or you have been assaulted, please report the matter immediately to convention staff, security staff, or Tampa Police Department. This is largely due to more informed volunteers, badges with security features and constructed of materials that are more difficult to accurately duplicate including watermarks, UV reactive ink, holographic printing, and more.<\/p><p>Counterfeit badges will absolutely not be tolerated \u2013 if you are caught with a counterfeit pass, regardless of where you acquired it or whether you made it or not, you will have your badge removed, and the Tampa Police Department will have you trespassed from the building. This is akin to scalping counterfeit tickets to a major sporting event, and your trespass from the building does not just apply to METROCON, but to the Tampa Convention Center as a whole \u2013 you will legally not be allowed to be on Tampa Convention Center property for one year from the date of the trespass. Combatting counterfeiting and piracy is something the City of Tampa takes very seriously, and so do we \u2013 we have a zero tolerance policy for these offenses. Your convention guest badge and props will be marked with an indicator that you\u2019re permitted to carry your prop. <strong>EVERY prop will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and all props must be inspected at Prop Check the first time they enter the building.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The hours for Prop Check are the same as for Registration \u2013 if you are arriving with a prop for the first time, please plan to have it checked during registration hours!<\/strong><\/p><p>You may be asked to take further measures to make the prop safe before it will be given approval. Be prepared for this contingency.<\/p><p>Those who have their props and weapons approved at Prop Check\u00a0<strong>MUST<\/strong>\u00a0keep them under their physical control at all times. We\u00a0<strong>WILL<\/strong> be checking to make sure that the owner and the item are together. If you loan your prop to someone else, or you fail to register your prop with <strong>METROCON<\/strong>, it may be confiscated, and you may be removed from the convention.<\/p><p>Cardboard, paper mache, resin, fiberglass, wood, and plastic props are preferred \u2013 we ask that <strong>ALL PROPS<\/strong> be constructed of light and flexible materials, and as little wood and metal as possible.\u00a0Props that are constructed of the preferred materials will certainly receive less hassle at Prop Check and throughout the weekend by METROCON staff, so save yourself some time that could be spent enjoying the weekend and follow our requests and policies regarding props and weapons.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jupiterx-single-advanced-accordion-wrapper  jx-ac-inactive\" id=\"\" >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-single-accordion-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-single-accordion-header-left\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-single-accordion-header-icon-toggle-wrapper jx-single-accordion-header-icon-toggle-wrapper-hide\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"jx-ac-title\">Additional Rules for Prop &quot;Weapons&quot;<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-single-accordion-header-right\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"jx-ac-icon-body-closed jx-ac-toggle-icon fas fa-chevron-right\"><\/i><i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"jx-ac-icon-body-opened jx-ac-toggle-icon fas fa-chevron-down\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-single-accordion-body  jx-ac-body-none\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-ac-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jx-ac-content-inner-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"jupiterx-ac-content-is-editor\"><p><strong>IMPORTANT: DO NOT CARRY PROP WEAPONS OUTSIDE THE CONVENTION CENTER IN PUBLIC!<\/strong>\u00a0The Tampa Police Department will treat anyone carrying real-looking guns or wearing tactical gear as a\u00a0<strong>REAL THREAT AND WILL TAKE SERIOUS\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ACTON!<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>METROCON will not be held liable for any legal action, injury, or death that may result from a violation of this rule.<\/strong>\u00a0If you have a costume that meets this description and you would like to wear it to\u00a0<strong>METROCON<\/strong>, please carry it to the convention center in a bag and then change into it. In this day and age, you can not be too careful. Again,\u00a0<strong>PLEASE\u00a0<\/strong>use common sense.<\/p><p><strong>BOWS\/CROSSBOWS:<br \/><\/strong>Bows and crossbows will only be permitted if they\u2019re absolutely prop in nature \u2013 no tension on the string beyond what it takes to keep it straight, and arrows should not have any form of a tip.<\/p><p><strong>BLADED WEAPONS:<br \/>NO EDGED STEEL!<\/strong>\u00a0Swords, knives, and other bladed weapons\u00a0<strong>MUST<\/strong>\u00a0be of a prop nature: foil-wrapped cardboard, THIN painted wood, flexible plastic, etc.\u00a0<strong>NO SHARP EDGES<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>and\/or POINTS are allowed.<\/strong>\u00a0Bokken and other\u00a0<strong>wooden weapons<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>ARE\u00a0<\/strong>permitted.<\/p><p><strong>GUNS:<br \/>NO REAL GUNS\u00a0<\/strong>may be used as props at\u00a0<strong>METROCON<\/strong>, regardless of being unloaded, stripped down, barrel filled, or any other precaution that could be taken. Prop or toy firearms \u2013 such as Airsoft and BB guns, NERF guns, etc. \u2013 will be permitted so long as they have an orange tip at the end of the barrel, and can be easily identified as such from a distance. Plastic props or toy firearms are preferred \u2013 metal or wooden props or toy firearms will inevitably receive more scrutiny from both Prop Check and the <strong>METROCON<\/strong> Staff throughout the weekend. In any case, Prop Check will make sure it is unloaded of any ammunition, as well as zip-tie the trigger so that the prop or toy gun is incapable of firing. Airsoft or BB guns that are electrically or gas-powered, must be discharged \u2013 i.e. no CO2 canister, no charged battery, or no battery at all, etc. If at any time you are caught with a prop or toy firearm not meeting any of these requirements, you will be instructed to have it checked at Weapons Check. Multiple infractions can result in your prop weapon being confiscated or you being ejected from the convention. <strong>METROCON<\/strong> maintains a zero-tolerance policy on discharging a projectile, even from an approved prop or weapon. Water pistol, NERF gun, airsoft \u2013 it does not matter \u2013 discharge it, and you will be removed. These rules apply to any prop or toy firearms purchased in the dealer\u2019s room (see below). While posing for a picture, you may\u00a0<strong>temporarily, during the photo op<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 allow another person to hold a leash you are wearing, remove your shoes because your character doesn\u2019t wear them, put on your roller skates or blades because your character does wear them, etc.<\/p><p>This does not apply to weapons and props that have not been approved at Prop Check.
